Cannabis grown by a California-based company, Cookies Enterprises, will soon be available for purchase in Chicago at local Chicago dispensaries. The Cookies strains are flying off the shelf in California and the company hopes to see the same reception in Illinois.
The partnership was announced last week, between Ascend Wellness Holdings, an Illinois based cultivation and dispensary company, and Cookies Enterprises, based in Oakland, California.
Cookies brand is has over 50 marijuana varieties, including indoor grown cannabis, outdoor grown cannabis, pre-rolls, edible cannabis products, gel caps, and vape cartridges.
As adult use sales is about to begin in Illinois in early 2020, the two companies announced that Ascend Illinois will cultivate 40 new cannabis strains from the family of Cookies brands, including popular strains Runtz, Minntz, Powerzzzup, Lemonnade, and Grandiglora.
Illinois already has over 80,000 medical marijuana patients in the state as of November, 2019 and the number is on the rise.
The cannabis market in Illinois has already surpassed over $230 million in annual revenue for 2019.
The upcoming recreational cannabis market in Illinois is projected to amount to over $2 billion according to analysts. The state of Illinois has already approved 55 cannabis dispensaries in the last 3 years.
Cookies’ co-founder and chief executive officer, Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr, is a rapper known as “Berner” and San Francisco native who has worked with other popular rappers in the cannabis space, including Snoop Dogg, B-Real, and Wiz Khalifa.
